Blue Yodel No. 2 WEEK 3

     Blue Yodel No. 2 by Jimmie Rodgers is a fairly happy and calming sounding song but in the lyrics is quite a sad story. In the song, it talks about the story of a man who says he is about to lose the woman he loves. He says that he is going to lose her because he doesn't like her ways because they ended up getting him in trouble and thrown in jail. He then talks about how when she wakes up she won't being seeing him because he'll be gone in jail.

    Just listening to the song while not paying any attention to the lyrics, it sounds like a classic old folk song: simple chords, repeating lyrics and a song that most people can enjoy. It makes me think of a lowly man on the street with his guitar just singing and playing about whatever comes to his mind. When I put effort into listening to the lyrics, I hear the emotion in his voice about how he is feeling. He is not all that sad about losing the woman because of what she has gotten him into. He also says that he's "gonna be a rounder til' the police shoot me down." Implying that he is already a rebel and can't change from his ways now.
